Spring 2026 Newsletter

Spring is here!!

As I sit in my office trying to think of a new way to start this newsletter, I look outside and see lots of inspiration. The multitude of daffodils swaying in the breeze, the peonies starting to wake up, the magnificent Yoshino Cherry tree across the way blooming like crazy, the “why do we have so many hydrangeas” pushing out new leaves and of course all the birds, deer and wildlife roaming through the front yard. We even had wild turkeys the other day which was a first for me here.

As the inspiration hit hard I became inspired to offer up even more beautiful garden ready plants on the Specials list. Yes, some of the plants are the same as the last list but there are many more new ones worth taking advantage of right now. I have even lowered the minimum quantities on some items so that more of you can perhaps try something new, think about shifting up to larger containers and of course, to sell more happy plants to happy customers. It’s a win win in my eyes.

A few of the plants on special that I think you should definitely consider are:

✽ #3 Otto Luyken and #3 Mt. Vernon laurels.

The Ottos are about 18” across, clean foliage and getting ready to push new growth in a couple of weeks. A fantastic plant for immediate sales or to grow on.
The Mt. Vernons are one of my favorites too. These #3’s are about 15”+ across, also have very clean foliage and are priced to sell. If you don’t know this plant, think of a medium large dark shiny mass growing along the ground to about 3’ tall just hanging out in the sun or partial shade. It’s very easy to maintain because no maintenance is needed. A great foundation plant or a nice evergreen to be mixed in a perennial bed.

✽ Any size of the Skip laurels are a great value and can fit many needs. If you need an easy customer carry out size then the #5’s and #10’s are the way to go. You can in see the pictures below that these will not last long and now is the time to get them in.
The b&b Skip laurels are super nice too. They are at the top of the grade meaning a 4/5’ will be 5’ or close to it. They have been fertilized and will be freshly dug. We grow a lot of skip laurels and I know these are some of our best.

✽ Many of you, if not all, have bought Japanese Maples from us in the past. The plants and varieties on the Availability and Specials list are super nice. I’m most fond of the weeping varieties which are exceptionally affordable and beautiful this year. Plus most of the maples are container grown so they are easier to stage and sell at your nursery.
If you are looking for maples to shift up then the #2, #3 or #5’s are the ideal option. We shift from these sizes too but we just have too many for our needs. Again, time to take advantage of a good deal.

✽ All of the boxwoods are fantastic this year!! I think the mild winter really helped them retain good color. I even put on special some easy sellers like Dee Runks, Winter Gems, larger Green Mountains and Green Beauties. Again, these are all fertilized and ready to ship!!

We are loading trucks every day now so please let me know what you need and I will get it on a truck right away. We load a lot of partial trucks this time of year so let’s put an order together and get it on the road!! I work closely with a few great truck brokers that help me find the best routes, price and service to facilitate your plants arriving safe and timely. And as a reminder, I will arrange the trucking for you at no added cost. We have never made money on the freight, we do it as value added service for you.

PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING
BASED UPON THE EXORBITANT AND EVER RISING COSTS OF TRUCK TRANSPORTATION & DIESEL FUEL THIS PAST MONTH… WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO PLACE YOUR ORDERS AND SHIP SOONER THAN LATER TO AVOID ANY FUTURE HIKES IN SHIPPING COSTS.

As always, if you need plants that are not listed please just ask and I will do my best to find them. I’m not always successful but I try really hard to find what you need.

A special thank you to everyone who has placed their spring order with me already. Your loyal continued business is deeply felt and cherished.
