Hello Everyone!
Ahh, Spring has sprung in it’s full glory with tulips showing their rainbow arrays of colors, peonies growing tall and setting their buds, the lilacs are popping and the Daphne are blooming both filling the air with the sweet signs of the season.
Spring shipping has been going gang busters as usual and I expect the strong sales to continue into April and May. Trucks seem to be in good supply, freight rates are not crazy high and all the plant material is really looking fabulous. We’ve had a rainy April which is great for growing and for the near future the weather is forecasted to be moderate which is perfect for digging and shipping. So now is the perfect time to place your orders and ship while quality is really great, inventory is still strong and shipping costs remain fair.
Plants are definitely out of dormancy which also adds to the beauty of spring. As the weather warms up we will start spraying Nature Shield on plants prior to digging if necessary. It is very important to always untie and water your plants once delivered to maintain their quality and ability to perform well and grow to their potential. Traveling across country takes several days in a cool dark trailer so please give the plants a chance to bounce back to their finest.
We have a good supply of beautiful Japanese Maples available in all sizes. The #10 Weeping Maples are especially nice this year with a nice caliper and good branching. My favorites are the Crimson Queens, Tamukeyama’s and Viridis. The upright Japanese Maples are looking great too. My favorites are the #15 6/7’ Sangokaku’s, #10 6/7’ Seiryu which has a lacy green leaf and the #10 6/7’ Bloodgoods, a popular favorite. Let me know which ones you would like to add to your order.
The Boxwood world really has been hot this spring. We still have really nice Dee Runk Boxwood 30/36” and 36/42” all B&B. These upright beauties make a great smaller hedge or also an accent plant. Green Beauty Boxwoods are also very nice. These are often used as formal hedges or as topiary forms like globes, pyramids and cones. Their bright glossy green leaves make this a favorite and they seem to be more blight resistant. Green Mountain Boxwoods are super nice too. We have lots available in their natural for as well as a topiary form. Available are some gorgeous 2 Ball Poodles and 3 Ball Poodles that are graded as Heavy. These make a wonderful accent plant in pots by an entrance or as a specimen in the yard. We have lots of other Green Mountain Topiaries too, Globes, Pyramids, Pompoms and Spirals. As you know these are plants that are both hardy and very low maintenance.
Plants of the Month:
Prunus Greenfinity and Prunus Volcano. These are 2 newer varieties of English Laurels that have hit the market hard and are proving to be real winners. Hardy to USDA zone 5!!
Greenfinity is a delightful smaller version of Skip laurel growing to 4-5’ tall and 3-4’ wide. The shiny green leaves start out a little lighter then harden off to be dark green adding visual interest. We have these available container grown in 6 and 10 gallons. Ideal for a privacy hedge in smaller yards.
Volcano is another eye catching Laurel with foliage that is a shiny dark green with bronze-red new growth. Sun or shade works for this beauty and preforms well as a mass planting, hedges or as a specimen. Small white flowers in spring followed by black berries. Its bushy habit is easy to maintain and grows to about 5-6’ by 4-5’. We have these available in a 6 and 10 gallon.
Wishing everyone a continued success with a happy and healthy spring.
Let me know if there is anything I can get for you. We have trucks running weekly to most areas.
Thank you All,
Alicia
